Gary G. Godsey and Kathryn Engelhardt-Cronk have teamed up to create MissionBox DoubleTake — a column that offers expert opinions about the peskier aspects of working in a nonprofit. Gary is a lifelong nonprofit leader. As executive director of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, Gary plays a vital role in Texas public education. He leads a team of more than 60 staff members and nearly 4,000 volunteers as they work to achieve the organization's vision of an exemplary education for every child in the state. Previously, Gary served as the CEO of the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation and in various executive roles that made him an integral part of the United Way on the state and national level for nearly three decades. His personal service on numerous nonprofit boards has broadened and strengthened Gary's expertise in nonprofit management. Kathryn is co-founder and CEO of MissionBox, founder and president of MissionBox Philanthropic Fund, and founder and past CEO of Community TechKnowledge. With more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit service arena, Kathryn is rooted in the nonprofit sector: first as a direct service provider with adults living with mental illness and later as an executive director of nonprofits in the areas of substance abuse treatment, child abuse prevention, and grief and loss support. Kathryn also served as VP of Community Impact for United Way and developed the first 211 for Central Texas.
