At Project Dignity we aim to reduce absenteeism and drop out rates at schools by empowering young girls through education and access to sustainable sanitary wear to help them reach their full potential. The work we do would not be possible without the help of our funders, donors and supporters. We rely solely on fundraising to raise the money to have the SUBZ packs of washable, reusable sanitary pads manufactured. We then identify schools in need of assistance and we visit the girls and talk to them about female hygiene, puberty and menstruation. We talk to the girls in their local language to ensure they understand correctly. In South Africa, there is huge stigma around puberty and menstruation and we hope to help break the silence and help the girls understand more about what and why these changes are happening in their bodies. Project Dignity supplies the SUBZ washable, reusable sanitary pads to the girls. We also supply panties which the pads clip directly onto. The pads can last a girl for 3 - 5 years. This is a huge cost saving to the families and it will also ensue that the girls can continue to attend school despite their menstrual cycle. The product is locally manufactured out of specialized materials. The pads contain no chemicals or gels and are easy to wash and dry and are therefore sustainable and eco-friendly.
