Among America’s best nonprofits, only one focuses on the urgent need to provide expert support for the 1 in 5 who live with a disability. For more than 80 years, Easterseals Southeast Wisconsin has been the indispensable resource for people, families and communities facing disability. Through the work we do in our community, Easterseals is fulfilling our purpose: to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people’s lives every day. Easterseals Southeast Wisconsin is an independent 501(c)(3) that is a local affiliate of the Easterseals Headquarters. One of the programs Easterseals provides is Project SEARCH, which is a 9-month internship program for teens and young adults with disabilities. Project SEARCH is a national, evidence-based model that was developed Erin Riehle, a nurse at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. There are currently more than 450 sites worldwide. Project SEARCH focuses on building marketable skills while immersed in the host business to help individuals meet their end goal: employment. More than 80% of individuals who complete Project SEARCH at Easterseals Southeast Wisconsin have found employment. Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development- Division of Vocational Rehabilitation is a strong partner and supporter in ensuring access to Project SEARCH throughout Wisconsin, including the 5 sites at Easterseals Southeast Wisconsin.
