Fueled by its mission to inspire, engage and empower individuals through the art of movement and dance, Urbanity is a non-profit contemporary dance organization based in Boston’s South End. Urbanity aims to engage people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, both in their own communities and in our own studio space, by helping them discover the joy of movement. Urbanity's critically-acclaimed professional dance company presents performances and programming celebrating Boston’s diverse voices in dozens of performances each year, including weekly performances about empathy and bullying for Young Audiences. Urbanity works with 500 students weekly through its community programs, and inspires thousands more in dozens of performances each year. Urbanity partners with many local organizations including Boston Children’s Museum, United South End Settlements, and the South End Community Health Center; represents the largest independent presence of dance in the Boston public schools; and leads Dance with Parkinson’s and Movement Mends programs. Serving over 700 students weekly and 1,000 students annually at its South End studios, The School at Urbanity Dance offers students—babies to seniors—a holistic dance curriculum that includes contemporary to hip hop, and improv to acro. Through its Access for All scholarship fund, Urbanity breaks down economic barriers for students who want to dance at Urbanity but whose families do not have the financial means.
