Action For Education (AFE) is an independent, grassroots organisation founded in the UK and Greece in 2017. The organization is focused on developing projects that build pathways back into education for displaced communities. Through a unique methodology developed over the last year and half, we challenge traditional methods of how emergency education can be carried out in humanitarian contexts. AFE strives to demonstrate the power of grass-roots actions and how civil society can inspire change. The core team has extensive experience working in Greece developing and providing education for children and young adults from refugee communities. Our Current Projects: Refugee Education Chios The education project Refugee Education Chios was launched in 2016 in response to the desperate condition of refugees on the island of Chios – a critical bottleneck on the road of flight to Europe. Action for Education's ethos is to provide a safe space for teenagers and young adults, and to offer non-formal education opportunities. Through careful guidance in learning, social interaction and common activities we support individuals in continuing to grow developmentally outside of the daily struggles in the camp. Chios Voices Chios Voices is a media project launched in February 2017, hosting an online platform for the creative and critical reflections of refugee children and youth on Chios Island.
