A Just Harvest began as a ministry of the Good News Community Church in 1983. We began simply as a soup kitchen, serving meals to those in need a few days per week. Today, A Just Harvest uses three strategies to fight poverty: The Community Kitchen - our nightly meal service provider, The Genesis Project - our Workforce Development and Community Development and Education program; and, Northside P.O.W.E.R. - our organizing and advocacy arm. With the help of more than 30 partnering organizations and nearly 5,000 volunteers, the Community Kitchen is the largest capacity soup kitchen in Chicago and the ONLY community kitchen in the Chicago metro area that serves hot meals 365 days per year to those in need without restriction.
