SupplyBank.org is a systems change agency working to establish pathways out of poverty for low-income Californians. Our mission is to efficiently address the unmet material needs of homeless and other impoverished children, and adults working towards self-sufficiency, and with that we are building the nation's first brick and mortar “supply bank” (like a food bank, but for supplies). Our organization was founded with the goal of applying the successful models of food banks and retail business to the issue of unmet material needs. Parallel to how food banks operate with farmers and food producers, we centralize procurement and in-kind gifts in the welfare space to provide upwards of $3 in materials for every $1 donated. Our distribution partners include more than 450 county offices of education, school districts, First 5 family resource centers, Women, Infants & Children (WIC) clinics, domestic violence shelters and other agencies throughout the state. In the past few years we have distributed more than $25 million worth of basic necessities including diapers, hygiene supplies, school supplies, refurbished laptops and other items to more than 500,000 people throughout California. 2018 is the year we break ground on a 60,000 square foot distribution center in Oakland, to reach hundreds of thousands of additional children and families with the materials they need for better health, education and employment outcomes.
