We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization with a mission to transform the lives of children through community programs. We help at-risk children achieve a better quality of life and reach their full potential in school through our Weekend Food for Kids, New Clothing for Kids and Reading Express programs. We focus our efforts on vulnerable, multicultural populations living in areas of concentrated poverty in our region, serving 6,000 students in eleven Title I elementary schools every year. Our dedicated volunteers live in the communities they serve, and funds raised are returned to those communities to help families flourish. We are proud to announce that Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) recently presented Assistance League of Northern Virginia with a 2018 Business Partnership of the Year Award. Assistance League was nominated by two partner schools served by our Weekend Food for Kids program in Manassas, Virginia. Weekend Food for Kids, our signature program, provides nonperishable food to increase food security in six Title I schools in three school districts in our region. During the 2017-18 school year, we delivered nearly 16,000 bags of food to children who may otherwise go hungry on weekends. New Clothing for Kids provides essential clothing, shoes, and grooming aids to children in need. Reading Express provides effective and individualized tutoring to develop reading skills of at-risk first grade students and provides new books to students.
