Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is experiential in nature - this means that participants learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses on the ground (no riding is involved). Through this process, participants have the opportunity to talk about feelings, behaviors and patterns that show up. This is a powerful and effective approach to finding hope and healing for individuals, youth, families, groups, veterans, first responders, and more. We work with horses in this model because horses are large, powerful, and relational. As herd animals they have developed a finely tuned system of communication with each other and have the ability to notice subtle changes in body posture, stance, and even breathing. They do not judge, blame, or shame which leads to providing honest, immediate feedback in their response to human behavior. Acres for Life was founded by Lynn Moore in 2001. Over the years Acres for Life has transformed into a 501C3 non-profit, serving individuals and families throughout Minnesota in providing mental health resources through this experiential model of therapy.
