Lines for Life is a Portland, OR based non-profit that provides prevention and intervention services to community members struggling with substance abuse and suicidal ideation through 24/7/365 crisis phone and text lines operated by highly trained volunteers and staff. Our free, anonymous crisis lines include: - Suicide Lifeline – Crisis intervention for callers who are considering suicide or are suicidal at the time of their call. - Drug and Alcohol Helpline – Drug and alcohol treatment referral for individuals and family members. - YouthLine – Peer-to-peer crisis intervention for youth ages 11-21 dealing with issues such as bullying, relationships, substance abuse, self-harm, and suicide. - Military Helpline – Confidential resource for military service members, veterans, and their families dealing with issues including access to benefits, alcohol and drug abuse, post-traumatic stress, and thoughts of suicide. In 2017 we took over 85,000 calls assisting callers struggling with addiction, mental health issues, and suicidal ideation to find a way forward through compassionate, confidential counseling, and where appropriate, referrals to treatment and/or support. Of the approximately 22,000 suicide related calls received in 2017, over 95% were successfully de-escalated without needing to call emergency services.
