VCID was officially authorized by the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training to champion and revitalize policy, research and practice in the field of vocational education and training. We aim to be an employer-focused training centre connected with local, national and global communities delivering opportunity and academic excellence. Teen pregnancies are very common in Kumbo especially with the Anglophone crisis that has limited children’s going to school and also other economic activities further limiting parents’ ability to take care of these teen mothers. Hence, subsequent motherhood presents a major challenge to a girl child who has no social support from family, friends and the community. These girls need to be offered a chance to rewrite their future free of judgment or condemnation. We are therefore stepping in to empower these gifted girls to become tailors and hair dressers in Kumbo. For this we equip them with entrepreneurship skills, financial management skills, advanced tailoring and hair dressing skills and soft skills to run their own business after completing their one year training. After completion of their training, these young girls will grouped into five cooperative groups and equipped with basic start-up equipment to kick-start business. Through the sale of items, these girls will make a small amount of money that offers a livelihood to them and their children and at the same time save money for their future or even go back for formal education.
