Kuza Uganda is a registered NGO in Uganda providing scholarships and leadership training to extremely poor yet extremely intelligent students in high school and university. These students are taken from all parts of Uganda and placed in a high academic performing high school with an intention of developing them into transformational leaders. Both girls and boys have been taken. The NGO has been providing this service since 2006 and 40 girls have been enrolled since then. To note, some of these students had dropped out of school by the time KUZA took them up but they were able to excel in their studies and enroll into good courses at university. The students we enroll are very vulnerable because of extreme poverty and low access to education and therefore have very low self esteem. KUZA therefore offers a program that fosters self-esteem and self-discipline, encourages them and recognizes the unique and creative abilities of each student. Students are given frequent opportunities of involvement and service to their communities through work camps as well as interface with mature dedicated mentors. During school holidays, they participate in leadership retreats where sessions on entrepreneurship, personal development, life skills, leadership and employability are handled in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. All this is aimed at making them realize their potential and become transformational leaders.
