Who We Are

We are a family who experienced a six year, uphill battle diagnosing and advocating for our daughter Emma's literacy development, in the face of a detrimental lack of both resources and education surrounding Dyslexia and its proper interventions. We have seen the need for early screening/diagnosing for Dyslexia and other Language Based Learning Differences in school aged children. We want to end the stigma of Language Based Learning Differences, such as Dyslexia, by educating anyone we can about the need for explicitly taught, research-based interventions in our Public School Systems.

Our Mission

The mission of RIVET is to connect, support and empower individuals who are effected by Language Based Learning Disabilities such as Dyslexia.

Emma's Journey

After a very costly and emotional 6 year battle advocating for our amazing daughter (who happens to be Dyslexic), my family saw a huge need for local support services for both individuals and families with Language Based Learning Disabilities. This can often be a very lonely battle for families and children, and the emotional toll can be devastating. Through our journey, we saw a major lack of education with both administrators and teachers in Public School Districts regarding Language Based Learning Disabilities; what they truly are, and how to effectively accommodate and provide appropriate research based interventions.

This collection of photos (below) are from Emma's Dyslexia journey that has brought us here. Looking at them stirs up so many emotions for me, as a mother, but mostly just...amazement.

I am constantly amazed by her resiliency and determination. There were so many very dark and sad moments that I never thought would end. It was physically, emotionally and financially painful for us all, but we made it and now are determined to help others to do the same.

I would love to hear your story and help in any way that I can. Stay Strong. You can do it!
