Helping to ease hunger for families and people in need
CoNSERNS-U is a food pantry and is part of the Tri-County Services programs of the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany. It's one of 460 food pantries in the New York region, providing the equivalent of 300,000 meals to more than 850 local families.
When CoNSERNS-U began, their primary goal was providing food to families in emergencies. But demand for assistance has been so consistently high, that CoNSERNS-U now provides basic, ongoing sustenance food to people struggling with food insecurity. In the last 10 years, demand on local food pantries has doubled, while resources have remained flat.
CoNSERNS-U partners with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. The Regional Food Bank providers over 30 million pounds of food and groceries each year, provided in partnership with the food industry, including farmers, food manufacturers and grocery retailers and wholesalers.
In addition to it's food pantry services, CoNSERNS-U is a information and referral service, a provider of clothing and back-to-school assistance, emergency assistance, and holiday gift and food distributions. CoNSERNS-U also assists with casework services that are provided to individuals and families throughout rural Rensselaer County.
