Dear SX6 Advocates,
Use your voice today to advocate for at least $5M in new funding from the City of Austin to support the child care sector!
This Thursday, Oct. 1, Austin City Council is considering Item 52 - a budget amendment to create a $15M fund to save vital economic sectors including live music venues, iconic restaurants and bars, and child care. This could result in $5M in new funding to support child care!
Here are two simple steps you can take to advocate in favor of Item 52:
1. Click here to email Mayor Adler and Austin City Council Members in support of Item 52 - Child Care. Include this message template or personalize with your story. Message to include - feel free to personalize: Subject Line: Support Agenda Item 52 - SAVES Child Care I want to thank you for recognizing child care as one of the vital economic sectors in Austin detrimentally impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and I strongly support the proposed $5M child care provider relief grant as part of Item 52 - Saving Austin’s Vital Economic Sectors (SAVES) initiative. This will support the child care industry in the short-term and build a more resilient, sustainable industry for the long-term. Access to quality child care is essential not only for parents to work or receive education and training; it is also the most effective way to grow the next generation’s collective human potential. The failure to adequately support the healthy development of our children, especially children of color, deprives us of their potential and erodes our ideal of equal opportunity for all. We recognize you are making hard decisions; however, child care provides the foundation and infrastructure needed by all sectors to get back on track. The combination of strategic investments in the short-term and innovation solutions for the long-term will result in a resilient child care sector ready to support the workforce of today and tomorrow. Please support the proposed $5M or more for the child care provider relief grant as part of the SAVES initiative.
2. Click here to register support for item 52 on the City's registration form, you must register support by noon Wednesday. You can register support without needing to testify during the meeting.
Thank you,
