Through WIP, students will conceptualize and create original artwork utilizing skills learned during the weekly workshops and curate a group exhibition of their work, which will be displayed in the Holland Project Gallery during the winter season. This year’s program will run from Oct. 2020 - Feb. 2021 culminating with the exhibition in March 2021. Guest artists will lead hands-on workshops/demos exploring a range of art making processes including analog/darkroom photography, traditional techniques in watercolor painting, fiber/textile art, self-published books/zines, as well as broader conversations around art history and current topics in contemporary art and culture. Due to COVID-19, this year’s program will be a hybrid of both in-person and online/at-home work sessions. Students will be split into two groups of 10-12 students and each group will meet at the Holland Project every other Friday from 3:30-6PM for in-person workshops/demonstrations with the guest artists.
Work in Progress is a beloved program that introduces students to their local community of artists and arts organizations while providing education opportunities in art skills not traditionally offered in Washoe County Schools. Furthermore, WIP is a meaningful artistic, networking, and professional opportunity for students pursuing higher education or work in both creative and non-creative fields after graduation.
Space is limited to 20 high school students in Northern Nevada. Students must submit an application and demonstrate a commitment to participate in the program and availability to attend all of the work sessions. If interested, please complete and submit the application by the deadline on Oct. 1st.
