The Search Institute says learning engagement is when a "child is responsive, attentive, and actively engaged in learning at school and enjoys participating in learning activities outside of school."
As a Big there are lots of ways you can do this. From exploring something your Little already loves, but maybe does not get to do much in school, to learning something new together, your time together fosters focus and fondness for learning.
Here are some resources to help you get started:
Great Basin Institute's Camp-In-A-Box features supplies for 25 lessons and 10 crafts, a journal, and a camp shirt. Activities mix indoor and outdoor learning. They offer kits for 8-12 year olds and kits for 13-18 year olds. Plenty of scholarships are available (see attached PDF application). The Carson City Library is offering lots of fun FREE online classes--Coding on Saturdays, Virtual Makers STEM Club on Fridays, story time, science talks. Go to www.carsoncitylibrary.org/calendar for details and to register.
