Author, Leanne Bishara, says first check in with yourself. Notice how you are feeling. Can you use it as an example for your child? Do you need to take a breath first?
Then, talk to your child about their feelings and emotions. What are they feeling? What made that happen? Let them know that you hear them and that hard feelings are normal and OK sometimes.
Next, talk about what anxiety is. We all get nervous sometimes and learning how to calm down is important. What can your child do to calm worried thoughts?
Finally, model this by talking about your emotions and ways to cope.
